Title: Director of Marketing Communications
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Marketing and Communications Director will be responsible for assessing, planning and directing all aspects of Marketing Communications for the organization. The primary goal of Marketing and Communications is twofold: to increase the awareness and understanding of the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts as a "go to" organization for information and support and to drive broader awareness and donor support for the organization.

Requirements & Skills

• BA/BS required, MBA/MS preferred; focus in marketing, communications, journalism or public relations
• Ten years of experience working in marketing, communications, or related function
• Stature, gravitas and confidence to gain credibility and respect of board of directors, key influencers, media contacts and donors
• Demonstrate skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications, public relations and donor relations
• Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
• Experience with training, developing, mentoring and appraising personnel
• Demonstrates successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media.
• Experience overseeing the design and production of print and digital materials and publications
• Demonstrated ability to proactively build relationships internally and externally
• Commitment to working with shared leadership in cross-functional teams.
• Exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, presentation and communications skills and the ability to effectively interface with Directors, Board Members and Donors.
• Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
• Innovative thinker with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.
• Ability to lead projects and special events
• Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs

• Ensure articulation and consistency of the organizations desired image, messaging and position both internally and externally

• Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with leadership team to recognize internal and external communication opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them

• Ensure the Organizations philosophy, mission, vision and purpose are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization

• Develop and implement an integrated strategic marketing and donor communications plan to broaden awareness to advance brand identity; broaden awareness of BIAMA's programs and priorities; and increase the visibility of the Organization and its mission and goals.

• Conduct Marketing and Communications tactics audit including survey of constituents, branding assessment and cost/effectiveness analysis of media vehicles

• Create and manage the Marketing Communications budget
• Design and execute annual marketing and communications plan for BIA-MA
• Create clear and consistent branding across all of BIAMA, including digital and print publications, events, social media, development and program communications
• Design, create, and manage distribution of online and print collateral and promotional/marketing materials, newsletters, and briefing documents
• Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to the smooth operation of the marketing, communications and donor relation functions
• Analysis of research, current market conditions and competitor information
• Provide communication and marketing support to other BIAMA departments, including education, development, events, support groups, and prevention
• Act as the organization's representative to bring brain injury awareness issues to the media and coach and support others through interview preparation
• Coordinate media interest in the Organization and ensure regular contact with the target media and appropriate response to media requests
• Develop media strategies and draft and distribute news releases
• Identify media targets and cultivate relationships with members of the media and with survivors and families
• Coordinate, create and place advertising for the association and regional offices; including print, radio PSAs and online ads
• Serve on various committees as assigned by the Executive Director
• Development and administer marketing communications departmental database

Oversee the supervision of the Marketing Communications Associate:

• Coordinate website maintenance and administration--ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is updated regularly
• Advance online social networking tools, including Twitter, Facebook, You Tube Picasa and company blogs
• writer/editor for Association materials
• Manage the selection and inventory of all promotional items
